Spring was taking it's time getting here and I was itching to get started on my project of photographing all the native jumpers of MA so I was searching in an area I had found Phidippus audax last spring and found this beautiful subadult female overwintering in a pile of asphalt that was heading for a dumpster. The Bold Jumpers are spring breeders so after one more molt (probably in May) she will be ready to find a mate. I find it interesting that all local Phidippus jumpers don't mature in the spring. Phidippus clarus matures in the summer and cardinalis matures in the fall.
