Jefferson Salamander

Ambystoma jeffersonianum

It's that time of year in Massachusetts. The amphibian migration began a couple of weeks ago. I have moved many spotted salamanders, spring peepers and wood frog across the road to their breeding pools already. Tonight might be another migration night. Please drive careful if your on the roads after dark. I had found Jefferson Salamander eggs in a vernal pool close to home many years ago and revisited this location every spring in hopes of actually seeing the Jefferson Salamanders migrating to the pool. This year I finally witnessed it!!! I knew they were there :-) Photo © copyright by Patrick Zephyr.
