Phidippus audax (courtship)
This is the time of year for Phidippus audax breeding. This is a species that is abundant in MA and probably the most wide spread Phid in North America. They are probably the most difficult Phid to photograph too because they never sit still!!! This guy was distracted with something and I was able to get a couple shots :-) He still never stopped for more than a second…he was dancing around like crazy. I found this pair while waiting for my car to be repaired last week. I was heading for the waiting room when I looked out the window and saw a pile of rocks on the edge of a field--Spiders!!!! Lots of P audax!!!! It almost made me forget about the repair bill :-(. Photo © copyright by Patrick Zephyr.
